#27. Synergy with Tech Tools

As an educator, I'm always on the lookout for innovative tools to enhance my teaching arsenal. In today's blog post we take a look at combining two tech platforms to quickly create superb learning resources for our students. We combine the power of ChatGPT with ElevenLabs' text-to-speech technology and see the power of combos.

______________

Example: Create proper mock listening tests for exams within minutes

You can see the simple synergy between ChatGPT and ElevenLabs in the quick video below, which showcases an example through the creation of an Eiken listening test:

In the example, ChatGPT was used to craft a series of well-structured listening test questions in text format only. This is something it can do very well, if it has been trained properly on example data (in this case some real Eiken Pre-Grade 2 sample listening questions...it only needs a handful). The questions it produced ranged from simple dialogues to more complex talks, perfectly pitched for the Eiken Test level I was interested in. The true magic, as the video clearly shows, happens when ElevenLabs steps in. This text-to-speech platform breathes life into the text, offering a realistic and engaging listening experience. You can copy and paste your listening exam questions into Eleven Labs and it produces the listening file in a matter of seconds. The natural and nuanced voices make the test more than just a practice tool; they simulate an authentic exam environment, crucial for students preparing for language proficiency tests.

That's good, but is that it...?

Why stop there with just one fantastic case use? Imagine harnessing these twin technologies for daily language lessons:

ChatGPT can generate interactive dialogues or short stories, which ElevenLabs can then vocalize. This method isn't just limited to test preparation. It can be a part of everyday learning, aiding in improving students' listening and comprehension skills in a more natural context.

Furthermore, for educators teaching subjects beyond languages, this combination can be a game-changer. Think about history lessons where historical speeches are brought to life, or science classes where complex theories are explained in clear, articulate voices. The potential is immense.

Incorporating AI and text-to-speech technology in education is not just about keeping up with the latest trends. It's about enhancing not only the learning experience of students, but also the teaching experience of educators in ways that were previously unimaginable, even just a year or two ago. It's a great combo in every sense.
